A cup of Coke, a pile of fries ... and thou. It could have been a tender romantic interlude between a young married couple spotted at a Boston Burger King. Instead, it turned out to be a painful bitch-fest as husband and wife battled mighty ugly in front of a stunned onlooker at the next table. So what's a fellow fast-food connoisseur to do? Tweet the whole ugly mess, of course, turning it into a quickie anti-romantic novel in 140-word increments. That's what Andy Boyle, web developer for the Boston Globe did, and it turned into a Twitter blockbuster.
“I am listening to a marriage disintegrate at a table next to me in this restaurant. Aaron Sorkin couldn’t write this any better,” tweeted Boyle, who also posted photos and a video. “She is sobbing quite loud. He gets up and walks out. She stays. We all feel quite awkward. His main complaint? She doesn’t clean the dishes when his mom asks her to." Then, ouch: “Why did you even marry me?” she asks. “Because I loved you." Finally, "she apologizes, He shrugs ... sorta hugs her. They depart. Their chair is now empty, just like the love in their marriage. The restaurant of broken dreams. That was incredibly depressing." Fade to black. Oh, but Boyle reassures any bickering followers: "I don’t regularly live tweet failing marriages at Burger King." (More Andy Boyle stories.)
