After an outcry from animal lovers nationwide, the Reno airport worker fired for refusing to put an abused dog on a plane has been offered her job back—with back pay. The president of Airport Terminal Services praised the courage of Lynn Jones for standing up for the dog, promised to use the incident as a "teaching moment" for company employees at 38 airports, and pledged a $5,000 donation to the Nevada Humane Society, AP reports.
Jones says she worries that she will face retaliation from managers if she returns to her job, but the company president promises that won't happen, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports. Incredibly, the dog, which Humane Society officials say was in an "appalling" state at the airport, was returned to its owner in Corpus Christi, Texas, after being nursed back to health. Authorities there are trying to trace the dog and its owner. "We’re going to do everything we can to follow this up," says a project manager for Corpus Christi Animal Control.
