Terrorist organizations banned in the US should also be banned from Twitter, says an Israeli legal group threatening to sue the San Francisco-based company. Shurat HaDin—which says its mission is "bankrupting terrorism, one lawsuit at a time"—warns that allowing groups like Hezbollah and al-Shabab to use its service exposes Twitter to lawsuits from victims of terrorist actions carried out by those groups, MSNBC reports.
The group says Twitter is violating a Supreme Court decision outlawing the provision of "any assistance or support" to terrorist organizations. "If Twitter does not immediately ban Hezbollah and other groups, we will seek all available relief and remedies against Twitter in all relevant jurisdictions," the group warns. A spokesman for Twitter—which has long insisted it favors free speech and won't take political sides—said the company had no comment on the potential lawsuit. (More al-Shabab stories.)
