When a British woman went into labor more than three weeks early there was no time to get to the closest hospital in Kent. But luckily enough, there was a midwife present: herself. The 28-year-old midwife, who had finished a 13-hour shift at a London hospital just a few hours earlier, delivered her healthy baby girl on her bathroom floor using a make-up mirror to guide herself.

"I got to the point where contractions were very close together and I thought I'd check to see what stage I was at, and lo and behold the baby was coming. I never thought I'd be that far gone," she tells the BBC, explaining she went into "autopilot" as soon as she realized the baby was on the way. "My husband came to find me and I was clearing up towels and making cups of tea." (More birth stories.)
