Add Laura and George W. Bush to the list of people disappointed that Jeb Bush isn't on the stump. The two "wish he would" eventually run for president, and they "wanted him to this time," the former first lady told a Florida crowd yesterday in response to a question, the Herald-Tribune reports. He would be a "wonderful" president, she said after a speech. "We’re out of politics, as George would say, but still interested in policy."
Bush mostly stayed away from politics as she discussed the past three years, during which time, she said, she fought for women's rights in Kuwait and Afghanistan and worked for women's health in Africa. She has lately focused on battling pollution in the oceans and the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, her husband has apparently been less than tidy. "Memo to the ex-President," she said. "Turmoil in East Timor is no longer an excuse not to pick up your socks.” (More Jeb Bush stories.)
