Tomorrow in SC: Colbert-Cain Primary Rally

Cain 'the only former candidate who shares my values,' says Colbert

Before he decided to get in the race himself, Stephen Colbert endorsed Herman Cain; later, the Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC put out an ad urging South Carolina to vote for Cain in Saturday's primary. So is it any surprise that now Colbert will hold a rally in South Carolina with Cain? Colbert's campaign announced "The Rock Me Like a Herman Cain: South Cain-olina Primary Rally" in a typically humorous press release yesterday (see it in full at Buzzfeed), and Colbert himself announced the rally on his show last night, promising it would be "even better than my rally in DC." (And yes, Cain is in on the joke; he tells Fox News, "To be perfectly clear, I will not be assuming Stephen Colbert's identity. We are very different when it comes to the color of our—hair.")

"Herman is the only former candidate who truly shares my values. It's like our values were separated at birth. And our ethics are at least first cousins," Colbert says in the press release. The Huffington Post explains Colbert's plan: It's too late for him to make it on the primary ballot himself, but Cain is still on the ballot even though he dropped out of the race. "Because Cain and I are so similar, I think that if this Saturday Herman Cain were to get a significant number of votes, that would be a sign that voters are hungry for a Stephen Colbert campaign," Colbert said earlier this week. South Carolinians interested in attending the rally should head to the College of Charleston at 1pm tomorrow. Click to see the Colbert super PAC's Cain-supporting ad. (More Stephen Colbert stories.)
