Big Catch in Pakistan: Giant Whale Shark

A photo is worth 1,000 words ... or 14,000 pounds, in the case of unbelievable images out of Pakistan. The Express Tribune reports that a 35-foot whale shark was found dead in the Arabian Sea and hauled to the Karachi harbor yesterday, where two small cranes attempted to hoist the creature from the water—and weren't up to the task. It took authorities more than four hours to get the whale shark out of the water using, among others, a 35-ton crane. It was auctioned later in the day to a buyer who plans to display the carcass for three days, charging the curious to see it. A biologist believes the whale shark may have become disoriented and ended up stuck in shallow waters. (More whale shark stories.)
