Mitt Romney has captured the Wyoming caucuses, an unorthodox series of county straw polls that took place over the last three weeks and wrapped up last night. Romney looks to have bagged about 39% of the vote, while Rick Santorum took 32%, Ron Paul nabbed 21%, and Newt Gingrich brought up the rear with 8%, reports the AP. But before Romney breaks out the cowboy boots, an asterisk to the victory: The results are nonbinding and don't affect the state's 29 delegates, notes ABC, and they represent the opinions of just 2,108 voters.
Indeed, more attention will likely go to county conventions next week, which will select 12 delegates, and the state's GOP convention beginning April 12, which will tap 14 more. The remaining three delegates automatically go to three Wyoming GOP officials, explains the Casper Star-Tribune. (More Wyoming stories.)
