If you think Republicans have been bashing President Obama, you haven't seen anything yet. American Crossroads, the largest GOP super PAC with an expected $200 million—founded by Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie—looks ready to begin its anti-Obama ads this month, reports the New York Times. Crossroads had been expected to wait until the Republican primaries were over to launch its campaign, but with Mitt Romney appearing to have the nomination in hand, the super PAC organizers decided to move up the schedule.

American Crossroads will begin campaign ads this month, but the bulk of its buys are expected from May to July. Crossroads' ads are in part designed to cover Romney while he rebuilds his coffers. The Romney campaign has only $7.3 million at the moment, and is about two months behind schedule for opening field offices in a dozen key states. Crossroads ads are expected to attempt to shift the debate from the Democrats' focus on wealth inequality to a referendum on the White House's economic policies. Describing the scapegoating of rich Americans as a “dystopian vision,” the head of American Crossroads said the early ads were needed because “that narrative has some gravitational pull.” (More American Crossroads stories.)
