Americans are getting fed up with their chins, the BBC reports. They had 20,680 chin implants last year—up 71% from 2010—making the procedure the nation's fastest-growing cosmetic operation. But it still trails in popularity behind liposuction (325,332 last year), breast augmentation (316,848), abdominoplasty (149,410), eyelid surgery (147,540), and breast lift (127,054).
Chin implants are most often added to other surgeries, experts say: "No one ever comes into my clinic asking for a chin implant," says a consultant surgeon in Britain. "Nobody says 'I want to look like Bruce Forsyth.'" Instead, they add it to an operation like nose reduction when "the small chin is making the nose look bigger." Others hate those darn double chins and treat chin augmentation like a facelift. One last chin factoid: Men and women are turning to the implants in equal numbers. (More plastic surgery stories.)
