Michele Bachmann stepped into a sticky situation this week, when she used the term "tar baby" while discussing President Obama's energy policy. In an interview with the conservative blog The Shark Tank on Wednesday, Bachmann opined that Obama is responsible for high gas prices, and shouldn't be blaming oil speculators for them. "This is just about waving a tar baby in the air and saying that something else is a problem," she said.

The term "tar baby" has at times been used as a derogatory racial term, but it can also refer to a "sticky situation." Bachmann's press secretary tells Politico that it's that second meaning the congresswoman was after, and that the remark had "nothing to do with race." (More tar baby stories.)
