Veep Joe Biden has added an unusual new embargo for his on-the-record press calls: No publishing anything about the call until it's over, reports Politico. Call it a reaction to the Twitter age, as reporters increasingly try to get out information as it is happening. The White House apparently wants to slow that down a bit.
"The embargo will allow journalists to hear the entirety of the vice president’s remarks and get the benefit of having their questions answered—before trying to condense a 30-minute conference call about a 20-page NEC report into a 140 characters," said a White House deputy press secretary. But, as Politico points out, that leads to another question: "If it's going to be in an article 20 minutes later, why can't it be on Twitter right now?" (More White House stories.)
