An Ohio man is facing a charge of attempted murder for what police believe was an attempted mercy killing. John Wise, 66, shot his wife of 45 years while she was in a hospital intensive care unit on Saturday, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Barbara Wise, 65, was declared brain dead the day after the shooting. "He wanted to take away her suffering," a police spokesman says. Wise will appear in court today. A spokesman for Akron General Medical Center says privacy rules prevent the center from releasing details of why Barbara had been admitted to the ICU several days before the shooting.
