Olympian Booted From Games Over Pot Brownie

Nick Delpopolo's pre-Olympics regimen included a ton of judo training—and, apparently, the consumption of at least one pot brownie. The US judo competitor was disqualified from the Games today after testing positive for marijuana. Delpopolo had already competed in the 73-kilogram class last Monday. The 23-year-old came in 7th then, but does go home with one dubious No. 1: He's the first of the Games' 10,500 athletes to fail an in-competition doping test, reports the AP.

But he's not totally alone in the world of doping: Four other athletes have tested positive for banned substances, but those tests occurred before the Olympics began. Delpopolo explained in a statement that "my positive test was caused by my inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana, before I left for the Olympic Games." Sky News reports that the United States Olympic Committee said the food item in question was a brownie. In an ominous sounding statement, the IOC explained that his "Olympic identity [will be] canceled immediately." (More Nick Delpopolo stories.)
