What happens when two college students form a super PAC? Easy: That super PAC sets out to raise money for … beer. Daniel Bassali and Winslow Marshall, both seniors at George Washington University, formed Slam Dunks, Fireworks, and Eagles with the intention of raising enough money to host a congressional happy hour. The idea is that members of Congress who don't see eye to eye—but, presumably, all share the same goal of reducing the deficit—sit down together in a less stressful situation to hash out solutions. "I do believe beer could be the missing ingredient" that leads to a balanced budget, Bassali tells ABC News.
Bassali and Marshall came up with the idea after personal experience—they don't see eye-to-eye politically, but they "sat down and had a beer and figured out our problems," Bassali continues. "We want to bring back that happy-hour time, that time just to sit down and have a beer with someone person-to-person instead of politician-to-politician." They're "slowly but surely" raising money, and their goal is $5,000 by September, he adds. After that, it remains to be seen whether anyone in Congress will join the two for a cold one.
