Actress and scientist Mayim Bialik suffered serious damage to her hand in a car accident in LA this afternoon and may lose a finger, reports TMZ. The former Blossom star, now 36, was in an intersection when another car with tourists from Chile struck hers, notes People. The tourists were not cited in the crash.

Bialik may have gained fame in her 1990s show, but she's a far cry from the many child actors whose lives went awry. She became a neuroscientist, for one thing, as noted in this July CNN story. Bialik still acts, too, and she picked up her first Emmy nomination for her role in the Big Bang Theory last month, reports USA Today. (More Mayim Bialik stories.)
