Another body-parts find in Canada has grim echoes of the Luka Magnotta case. The discovery of a severed head and right foot of an unknown woman in a Toronto-area park led to the closing of the park and a large-scale police hunt yesterday, reports the Toronto Star. The foot was found floating near the edge of a river by hikers on Wednesday, and investigators say it looked like it had been detached "fairly recently." The head was then discovered by police around noon yesterday, about half a mile north of where the foot was found.

Dozens of police scoured the Mississauga park yesterday, combing through thick grass with bladeless hockey sticks, and a marine unit is searching the river. The foot is believed to be that of a woman mainly because the toes were colored with yellow nail polish. "Without a cause of death we can’t call it homicide, but certainly foul play," says one investigator. "There’s definitely something amiss." Investigators—who aren't certain that the head and foot are from the same person—are sifting through missing person reports. (More Toronto stories.)
