Vatican Pushes for... Bald Barbie?

Forget any number of controversial stances the Vatican has taken, it's now weighing in on ... Barbie dolls. Following a Facebook campaign earlier this year, Mattel decided to launch a bald friend of Barbie in a nod to sick kids who've lost their hair and donate the dolls to hospitals. That's a good step, but the toy giant should really put her on sale, too, the Vatican's official newspaper urges.

Barbie has long been rightfully criticized for her "perfect and unreal" figure, her "plastic beauty," and her "vacuous blondeness," historian Giulia Galeotti writes, according to the Guardian. Selling a bald version could seriously help the doll's image, and Galeotti can't help but wonder: "Why is there no trace in the real world of this lineup of politically and educationally correct dolls?"
