Well, it's almost like a debate: 60 Minutes will feature separate interviews this Sunday with Mitt Romney and President Obama, reports USA Today. CBS promises that both will get similar questions on the economy, health care, national security, and the like—and no doubt some on Romney's "47%" flap. As for the real debates, the first one is scheduled for Oct. 3.
Two developments of note on the Romney video:
- Pat Buchanan defended Romney on Fox and called government aid a "narcotic," which led him to conclude: "If it’s a narcotic, Barack Obama is a drug dealer of welfare. He wants permanent dependency.” More at Salon.
- Another Republican distanced himself from Romney's remarks, this time Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, who is in a tight race, reports CNN. "I have five brothers and sisters," he said. "My father was an auto mechanic; my mother was a school cook. I have a very different view of the world and as a United States senator I think I represent everybody, and I think every vote is important."
