With gas prices soaring in California—at an average of $4.655 yesterday compared to $3.814 nationally—Gov. Jerry Brown is entering the fray, aiming to bring cheaper winter-blend gasoline to the state early. He has ordered the California Air Resources Board to allow the sale and import of the stuff now. That supply boost should trim the state's gas prices by 15 to 20 cents per gallon over the next few days, an expert tells the Los Angeles Times. Winter-blend gas, which evaporates faster than the type of gas sold during the summer, usually isn't available until after Oct. 31. It's thought to be worse for air quality in warm weather than the summer supply. (More California stories.)
