Mitt Romney appeared to shake the etch-a-sketch on abortion yesterday, saying he didn't foresee passing any laws limiting abortion rights. "There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," he told the Des Moines Register, though he did say he would issue an executive order reinstating a policy prohibiting American aid from funding abortions.

But no sooner had the comments appeared online than the campaign began walking them back, the AP reports. "Gov. Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life," said spokeswoman Andrea Saul. Romney backed abortion rights when he became Massachusetts governor, but switched positions while in office. Throughout the campaign, he has underscored his opposition to abortion, and Saul says he is "proudly pro-life, and will be a pro-life president." (More abortion stories.)
