The DC press corps is scrambling to fill in the pieces regarding the bombshell resignation of CIA chief David Petraeus, and Fred Kaplan at Slate cuts to the chase: "The woman with whom Gen. David Petraeus was having an affair is Paula Broadwell, the author of a recent hagiographic book about him, All In: The Education of David Petraeus." Kaplan doesn't name his sources but says rumors have been flying for a while. Read his full post here.

NBC, meanwhile, reports that Broadwell is under FBI investigation for trying to get into Petraeus' email account, though that investigation isn't expected to result in criminal charges. And the AP notes that the affair came to light during an FBI investigation, presumably the one NBC is talking about, though it doesn't specify. The Washington Post says a "stunned" President Obama had only one night to process the news before accepting the resignation. (More David Petraeus stories.)
