Fox News Latino declares that "Jenni Rivera could have avoided death," in a report on a last-minute itinerary change the singer made. Though the promoter behind the concert she gave in Monterrey on Saturday offered to put her up in a hotel for the night, she made a last-minute decision to take off. He explains that in a call with Jenni and her rep at 2:30am, "they informed us that she had changed her plans and that they would be flying out right away to Toluca." (Her plane went missing around 3:30am.) She said she needed to leave in order to appear at a singing competition in Mexico City. Two other equally gloomy updates:

  • Rivera's family has finally been forced to give up hope that the singer was somehow, somehow still alive. Her remains have been IDed and turned over to the family, who have selected what CNN describes as an "ornate red urn" as her final resting place.
  • Two Mexican police officers have been arrested on suspicion of stealing items from the crash site, reports the AP. One of the officers had photos of the scene on his phone, which police discovered as part of their investigation into how the press was able to obtain grisly photos of the closed site.
