In seeking state child support, a Kansas mom said she didn't know who donated the sperm to conceive her daughter, but that's not true, the state says. Jennifer Schreiner wrote on the application that she had "no idea" who'd fathered her child, the Topeka Capital-Journal reports. But a sperm donor contract with donor William Marotta—who is battling the state's request for child support money—shows that Schreiner and her partner, Angela Bauer, did know his identity, the state's court filing says.
What's more, an interview with the Capital-Journal indicates the couple knew who he was, the filing notes. The state also argues that the contract, which absolves Marotta of any financial duties, "may be invalid on its face." Officials say they were given multiple versions of the contract, and one doesn't have Schreiner's signature or dates. But Marotta and his attorney "stand by that contract," the lawyer says. "The insinuation is offensive ... There was no personal relationship whatsoever between my client and the mother, or the partner of the mother, or the child." (More sperm donors stories.)
