One of the men accused in the horrific gang rape and murder that has captivated India has had a brush with fame/infamy before—and, appropriately enough, it was on a court-themed TV show. Ram Singh, who in addition to allegedly taking part in the rape drove the bus it occurred on, appeared on the show "Aap Ki Kachehri" (meaning "Your Court") in 2011, the AP reports.

The show appears similar to the US show "The People's Court," with former top police officer Kiran Bedi acting as judge to resolve disputes. Singh was seeking compensation from his employer after injuring his hands in a bus accident. But his employer argued successfully that Singh was to blame for the wreck, because he'd been drinking and driving, and otherwise behaving "rashly and negligently." The episode was brought to the AP's attention by Bedi herself. "He got no compensation from us!" she said. (More Ram Singh stories.)
