Two adult brothers, one of whom was having difficulty coping with the loss of his parents, allegedly stole their 92-year-old father's body from a cemetery ... and police say the men may have believed they could resurrect him. Clarence Street's "intact and unharmed" corpse was found yesterday morning in the basement freezer of one of his sons' Detroit homes, the Detroit News reports. The body had been taken from a mausoleum, casket and all, and loaded into a van.
Police tracked the van down the next day, found the empty coffin, and then the body. The 38- and 48-year-old sons are in custody and could be charged with disinterment. The 48-year-old was apparently having a hard time coping with his dad's death, particularly since his mother had also died recently. "In the interview with the son, he was very, very, very distraught," an officer says; he admitted to purchasing the freezer in order to store the body. "He is very religious, and he was hoping his father would be resurrected. He was hoping for a miracle." (More strange stuff stories.)
