The Colbert-for-president thing may not have panned out, but now Stephen's sister is running for Congress in South Carolina, reports the St. Andrews Patch. And this time's it's no joke. Elizabeth Colbert-Busch will run as a Democrat for the seat being vacated by Tim Scott, who has been appointed to the Senate. Colbert-Busch, who works at Clemson University, has never run for public office before. Any Democrat is a long-shot in the red district, notes the Washington Post, but the Patch thinks that Colbert-Busch's name recognition and the likelihood that she'll be able to raise money gives her a legitimate shot at victory.

BuzzFeed points out a slight difference between her and her famous brother: She pronounces the "t" in their last name. For more on her, see this 2010 profile in the Post and Courier of Charleston. The second paragraph:

  • "Her father and two of her brothers were killed in a plane crash when she was 19. She was married to a man who ended up on America's Most Wanted. And in 2001, while at a business conference in New York City, she was sitting in a building directly across the street from the World Trade Center when two jetliners slammed into its twin towers, forever changing the landscape of America."
