Looks like UK schoolkids are among the many who have been unwittingly eating horse meat. DNA tests have found horse meat in cottage pies sent to 47 Lancashire schools. Officials believe only a "minute" amount of the rogue meat was actually consumed by children, and say the meat isn't believed to be dangerous, the BBC reports. "But I've no doubt parents will agree we need to take a very firm line with suppliers," a Lancashire County official said.
Three Irish education boards yanked beef burgers from their menus over the horse meat issue as well, though one later reinstated them after confirming they were all-cow. Meanwhile, the scandal continued to expand its footprint, as ready-made lasagna meals sold by Norway's biggest retailer were found to contain horse meat as well, Reuters reports. The meals were pulled from shelves earlier this week based on suspicions they might be tainted, but today brought the first confirmation that the scandal had indeed reached Norway.
