Man Banned From Yelling 'Bingo'

Bingo is serious stuff. Or so Austin Whaley likely now knows. The 18-year-old Kentuckian has been barred by a judge from uttering the word "bingo" for six months after he falsely did just that last month. As the Kentucky Enquirer explains, Whaley was working security at a Covington bingo hall when he yelled the game-ending word. A police officer cited him for second-degree disorderly conduct, explaining that Whaley "delayed the game by several minutes and caused alarm to patrons."

Those patrons, which were mainly elderly women, apparently began "yelling and cussing" once they realized what had happened. But the women weren't the only ones Whaley crossed: The officer says he would have let him off with a slap on the wrist, but the teen refused to apologize, leading to the citation. "He seemed to think he could say whatever he wanted because it was a public building," says the officer. "You can’t go into a ballpark and yell 'out,' because people could stop the game."
