Amid the many emotions swirling around the Cleveland kidnapping case, there must, for one family, be a kind of disappointment that one more captive wasn't rescued from that house. Ashley Summers disappeared in 2007 at age 14 in the same Cleveland neighborhood where Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus vanished, and for years speculation has swirled that the three cases were related, writes Justin Peters at Slate. (The older Michelle Knight didn't get as much press attention because she was considered a runaway.)

Summers was reported missing from a house about a mile and a half from where Berry and DeJesus vanished. Some reports have her instead going missing from her uncle's West Side home, but that would only put her closer to suspect Ariel Castro's house. Of course, Peters points out, there's no indication Castro was involved in Summers' disappearance, "and it would be irresponsible to jump to any conclusions. But you'd have to imagine the Summers' family is asking that question today." (More Cleveland stories.)
