(Newser) – If nothing else, you can certainly say it wasn't a moment too soon. Resoundingly slamming the barn door after a certain pony fled to Hong Kong, Booz Allen has fired Edward Snowden, the company announced in a one-sentence statement today. "Snowden, who had a salary at the rate of $122,000, was terminated June 10, 2013, for violations of the firm’s code of ethics and firm policy," it said, according to Politico.

The salary reference shows that there is at least one part of Snowden's story that the NSA contractor wants to publicly refute: Snowden had previously said that he had "a salary of roughly $200,000." Writing for Politico, Philip Ewing theorizes: "It's possible he was accounting for other income outside his work for Booz Allen or that he might have been exaggerating to make a point about the sacrifice he felt he was making by releasing the documents."
