After hearing of a suicide broadcast live on Fox, two Arizona boys looked for it on YouTube after school, only to realize in horror that they were watching their own father's death, according to a lawsuit filed against the network. JoDon Romero shot himself after a police chase and the mother of this three sons, ages 9, 13 and 15, says the older two boys watched the footage and have been unable to return to school since because of severe emotional distress, the Hollywood Reporter finds.
A psychologist has found that the boys are suffering "symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that included flashbacks, repeated thoughts and feelings associated with viewing the video of their father shooting himself in the head," the lawsuit states. The family's lawyers say the boys will require long-term psychiatric treatment. Fox apologized within minutes for failing to use its 5-second delay to cut away from the scene, and later blamed the airing of the footage on "severe human error." (More JoDon Romero stories.)
