Republicans are in elephant heaven today over the Obama administration's decision to postpone the employer mandate portion of the Affordable Care Act, gloating that it proves what they've been saying all along: that the law is, to quote Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, "unaffordable, unworkable, and unpopular." Many accused the administration of attempting to shield Democrats ahead of the 2014 midterms, Politico reports, while Mitch McConnell and John Boehner both used the occasion to call once again for the law to be repealed and replaced.
Darrell Issa questioned whether Obama even had the legal authority to delay the employer mandate without congress, calling it "another in a string of extra legal actions taken by his administration to mask the horrible impact his law will have." Democrats, meanwhile, are defending the move as appropriately cautious. "I’m pleased the administration is listening to me and the many businesses that are concerned," said Mark Begich of Alaska, a moderate Democrat up for reelection. (More ObamaCare stories.)
