A Chicago Tribune story about a 4-year-old girl wounded in a drive-by shooting Sunday night has this jarring statistic: She is one of eight kids ages 7 or younger who have been shot in the city during the last six weeks. In the Sunday shooting, Shyla Rivera got hit in the thigh while riding in the back seat of a car, while her older brother and his friend also were wounded. The car was deliberately targeted, but police say those inside were not gang members. "She's a tough son of a gun," says her brother. "She took it better than I did." The city is having yet another violent summer, after registering more than 500 homicides last year. (More Chicago stories.)
