Of all the places in the Bronx to find a stash of drugs, guns, and weapons, "Fun World Childcare" doesn't sound like the most likely candidate. But a raid on the building that houses the daycare center last week turned up more than just teddy bears and juice boxes: Cops found more than 1 kilogram of cocaine, 1,000 Oxycodone pills, and $20,000 in cash. About 300 grams of the cocaine were found inside a lunch bag "that could be carried by a child," say authorities. Gregorio Hanley, 41, and Johanna Vasquez, 31, the couple that owns the center and lives in the same building with their two young sons, were both arrested, reports the NY Daily News.
Daily News sources say the bust was conducted after investigators spotted Hanley dealing drugs in front of the building a few hours earlier. A subsequent raid on an apartment across the street, to which Hanley had keys, turned up another $160,000 and a loaded handgun. About 15 kids attend the daycare center. Parents who arrived to drop their kids off the day after the bust found a sign taped to the door: "A family emergency occurred very late last night and I was unable to message you. Fun World will be closed today. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience." (More New York City stories.)
