Navy Yard Death Toll Hits 12

At least 12 people have died in the shooting at the US Navy Yard, DC Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed today, and police aren't sure if they've accounted for all the culprits. Police have confirmed that one shooter is among the dead, but Lanier said that the search was still on for two other potential shooters. But police have since identified and cleared one of those two people. Here's what we know right now:

• "Right now, and this is very, very preliminary ... we have one shooter who we believe was involved in this who is deceased," Lanier said earlier this afternoon. "We potentially have two other shooters that we have not located." The white man wearing a khaki military-style uniform "has been identified and is not a suspect or a person of interest," according to a tweet from the DC police. They are, however, still seeking a black man, approximately 40 to 50 years old, wearing an olive military-style uniform. Lanier said there was no evidence they were military personnel, just that they were wearing military-style uniforms.
• Lanier says people are still being asked to stay clear of the area. Another update will take place around 4pm.
• NBC and CBS identified the dead shooter, notes Huffington Post, only to quickly walk it back. It turns out the name came from a dropped ID card, not the shooter.
• A civilian Navy employee tells Fox News that he saw a gunman shooting from a fourth-floor overlook, aiming down at people in the first floor cafeteria. Other witnesses say the man was wielding an AR-15 assault rifle.
• Mayor Vincent Gray said there was not yet any reason to believe this was a terrorist attack, according to CNN. Lanier said police have yet to determine a motive.
