Scott Nagy, dying of metastatic urethral cancer, promised daughter Sarah he would walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. And, with the help of his nurses, he kept that promise Saturday in a Cleveland suburb, the Plain Dealer reports. A team of medical professionals volunteered their time: planning logistics with the pastor; putting Nagy through therapy to boost his strength; helping him to get dressed at the hospital; driving him to the Strongsville church in an ambulance; and monitoring his condition throughout the ceremony and as he posed for pictures. They even matched the sheets on his gurney to the wedding colors, NBC News reports.

"The first night at the hospital [in August], Scott said, 'Just remember, I have to be at my daughter's wedding in October,'" says Nagy's wife, adding that the 56-year-old took part in other preparations, from the bridal shower to dress shopping. "After Scott told us his goal, he was our inspiration," says one of the volunteers. "It makes it all worth it." Adds Nagy, who was wheeled down the aisle on a gurney, "It was a promise I made in March, to walk her down the aisle. She's my princess. This is my definition of walking down the aisle." He wasn't able to make it to the reception, but gave a toast via Skype from the hospital. (More uplifting news stories.)
