A firefighter in San Francisco has resigned after he crashed the fire truck he was driving into a motorcyclist—and then was found to have had a blood-alcohol level of 0.13, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. That's not only well above the legal limit, it violates the department's zero-tolerance policy while on duty. The motorcyclist is recovering from a punctured lung, and five other members of the department—including two assistant chiefs—face discipline over the incident.
The driver was Michael Quinn, 43, and he left the scene after the accident. Surveillance video from a local bar shows him "guzzling water" there, reports the Chronicle. When he finally returned to the station, he still blew the 0.13. It's not clear why the other members of the department face discipline, but all were at the scene of the crash. The chief wouldn't shed light but denied rumors of a cover-up. No criminal charges have been filed in the case. And the call Quinn and crew were responding to? False alarm.
