The standoff in Ukraine is translating into drama at the Kremlin-funded Russia Today TV network. American anchor Liz Wahl announced during a live broadcast from DC today that she was quitting, reports the Daily Beast. Wahl, who recounted how her own grandparents had fled Hungary to escape Soviet persecution, said she could not be "part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin." Her move comes a day after (former) colleague Abby Martin made headlines with an on-air condemnation of Russia's moves in Ukraine, notes the Telegraph.

"Just because I work here, for RT, doesn't mean I don't have editorial independence, and I can't stress enough how strongly I am against any military intervention in sovereign nations' affairs," said Martin. She, too, works out of DC and is still with the network, though her bosses announced after her criticism that they would be sending her to Crimea to see the situation first-hand. Martin said she had no intention of going. (More Ukraine stories.)
