Montreal was hoping to gain ground on conference-leading Ottawa, but Toronto had other ideas, outshooting the Habs 36-28. Also in hockey: The Ducks continued to rebound from a six-game skid, topping the Rangers 4-1 after beating the Islanders a game earlier, also in New York.
