A high school vice principal who was aboard the doomed South Korean ferry with more than 300 students from his school was one of the first to be rescued—but today he was found dead. Kang Min Kyu, 52, apparently hanged himself from a tree, using a belt, CNN reports. He was found near a gymnasium where relatives of passengers who are still missing are waiting for news. Nearly 260 students and teachers from Kang's school are still missing, and 14 are confirmed dead, the Los Angeles Times reports. Meanwhile, investigators say the ferry's captain wasn't at the helm when the ship ran into trouble. (More South Korea stories.)
