A 12-year-old girl who got stabbed 19 times, allegedly by two friends said to be obsessed with the fictional "Slender Man" monster, is back home again, reports NBC News. The girl got released from a hospital in Waukesha, Wisconsin, about a week after the attack, and her parents issued a statement that includes this line:
- "While we have kept discussions about the events of May 31, 2014 with her short, we did ask how she found the strength to crawl out of the woods. Her response was simple: ‘I wanted to live.’"
The criminal complaint against the two 12-year-old girls accused in the attack says their victim got stabbed near the heart and was "one millimeter away from certain death." The girl, whose identity isn't being revealed, made it out of the woods and was found by a bicyclist on the road. "Who did that to you," he can be heard asking her on the 911 call, reports CNN. The alleged assailants have been charged as adults with attempted murder. (Click to read why one columnist thinks that's a bad idea, or to read about the online origins of the Slender Man meme.)
