• Mom Helps Teen Who Killed Daughter Avoid Prison: It was a scene Florida Judge Ellen Sue Venzer "could have never imagined" after 20 years in a courtroom: a mother embracing her daughter's killer. But not only did it happen, the mother helped win the teen shooter a lighter sentence.

• Teenage Son Shields Mom From Bullets: Police say a 19-year-old in Delaware got shot twice after diving in front of his mother to shield her from the bullets. Both survived, with the teen's bravery and quick thinking getting much of the credit.
• Store Robbery Has Silver Lining: If there's an upside to getting bashed in the head by a pistol during a robbery, this would be it: When convenience store manager Jeremiah Willey went to the hospital afterward, a CT scan turned up a large brain tumor. Doctors say it would have been fatal had it not been caught in time.
• Off-Duty Cop Pulls Man From Burning Car: It's a remarkable scene: A car rams into a gas station pump and causes a fire in White Plains, New York. The elderly driver is incapacitated and looks doomed, but an off-duty state police investigator just happens to be there pumping gas at the time...
