Dorothy Hunter says it's just that nutritious

Forget the ice diet or downing 1,000 McNuggets: For real culinary adventure, there's a pet-store owner in Washington state who's pledged to eat nothing but cat and dog food for a whole month, Fox News reports. Dorothy Hunter says all of her products at Paw’s Natural Pet Emporium in Kennewick, Wash., have enough nutritional value to keep her going. Her favorite dishes so far: Tiki canned chicken cat food and dehydrated green beans, she tells the Tri-City Herald. "In the dry kibble, I really like the Italian brand and the Natural Balance," she says. And yes, she eats straight from the can.

It all started when she got hungry one day while restocking store shelves, Today reports. "I didn’t have time to get a snack, so I grabbed a bag of treats off the counter, and I was like, 'Wow, you know, these read better than normal people treats,'" she says. But a rep for an upscale dog-food company says he doesn't advise eating the food, and Today's diet and nutrition editor says pet food can give people food-born illnesses. Still, Hunter hopes that her 30-day feast, which started June 19, will help raise nutritional awareness. It also happens to coincide with a 12,000-foot expansion of her store: "We'll be the largest independent pet store in the state," she says. (Bad news for animals: They're having an obesity crisis, too.)
