US | President Obama Obama on Foley: We Will 'See That Justice Is Done' Visibly angry, president vows Islamic State 'has no place in 21st century' By Polly Davis Doig Posted Aug 20, 2014 12:24 PM CDT Copied James Foley of Rochester, NH, a freelance contributor for GlobalPost, in Benghazi, Libya. (AP Photo/GlobalPost, File) The "entire world is appalled" by Jim Foley's execution at the hands of the Islamic State, President Obama said today in a seething statement in which he vowed to "do what is necessary to see that justice is done." He took square aim at the terror group, saying that "No just God would stand for what they did yesterday," and that it "has no place in the 21st century" and "has no ideology of any value to human beings. Their ideology is bankrupt." He continued: "Today the American people will all say a prayer for those who mourn Jim. We will do everything we can to protect our people and the timeless values that we stand for." The Islamic State's demand that the US halt airstrikes appears to have had the opposite effect: The "only question is if we do more," a US official tells the Washington Post. Earlier today, the White House officially confirmed that the man in the video was in fact Foley, a freelance journalist from Rochester, NH, kidnapped in 2012 in Syria.
