In a match-up between the struggling Senators and floundering Flyers, it took a shootout to determine which team is currently less hapless. This time it was Ottawa, who hope this 3-2 victory can turn around their 2-for-8 recent record; for the Flyers it was the eighth straight loss, and ninth consecutive shootout failure, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Vancouver blew enough chances to have deserved an outright loss to Minnesota, but a Markus Nasland goal brought the game to overtime, when Daniel Sedin scored to secure a 3-2 Canucks win.
  • Wayne Gretzky will have to wait for his 101st win, as Phoenix crashed and burned against Calgary 4-1.
