Zach Parise and Brian Gionta helped the New Jersey Devils cool off the red-hot New York Islanders today in a 4-2 win, reports the Associated Press. Parise scored a tie-breaking goal in the third period, and Gionta added an insurance goal for the Devils, who snapped the Islanders six-game winning streak. It was the Devils first win over the Islanders in six tries this season.

Martin Brodeur had 19 saves for his NHL-leading 34th win. Rick DiPietro stopped 38 shots, including 18  in the third period, in falling to 4-1 against the Devils. The Islanders six wins in a row had followed a seven-game winless streak. John Madden scored a short-handed goal for the Devils in the first period, the 11th the Islanders have given up.
