The New York Rangers playoff chances got a big boost tonight with a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, reports the Associated Press. The Rangers, Sabres and the Boston Bruins were tied for the last three Eastern Conference playoffs spots when the night started. Sean Avery scored the winner for the Rangers with 5:05 left in the game. In other NHL action:

  • The Florida Panthers sent the Philadelphia Flyers to a franchise-record 10th straight loss with a 2-1 win in overtime. Jay Bouwmeester scored with 3.7 seconds left in regulation for Florida.
  • Mats Sundin scored a goal in what might be his last game for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
