A parolee with more than 30 prior arrests under his belt is being sought by the NYPD as a suspect in the death of a 61-year-old man who was pushed in front of an NYC subway train on Sunday, law-enforcement officials tell the Wall Street Journal. Kevin Darden is a 35-year-old homeless man who has spent time in jail and been nailed for a variety of charges, including trying to set his own brother's house on fire and, most recently, pickpocketing in midtown Manhattan, the New York Post reports.

Someone at the NYPD recognized Darden in the surveillance video, notes the Journal; so did a local construction worker, who tells the Post, "When I saw the video [released by police], I said, 'I've seen that guy before! That's the guy that's always walking around the neighborhood asking for change.'" Meanwhile, the driver of the train that struck Wai Kuen Kwok has apologized to the man's family and says that he pulled the emergency brake when he saw what was happening, but it was too late. "There was nothing I could have done," he tells the Post. "All of my passengers were crying with me. They were consoling me. They told me it wasn't my fault." (There was a happier ending for this NYC subway fall.)
