Mom, Dad Spot Sons in Burglary Video, Turn Them In
Surveillance video from Tech Boyz   (Tech Boyz)

You know that heart-warming moment when you unexpectedly spot your kids on the evening news and they're ... stealing electronics on a store's surveillance video of a burglary, not staying at an older sibling's house like they'd told you? Such was the experience of an unnamed couple in Fayetteville, NC, who were watching a WTVD report on New Year's Eve about a burglary at Tech Boyz when they recognized their 14- and 16-year-old sons among the pilferers. But while some parents might've handled discipline on their own to avoid a blemish on their kids' record, these two marched their boys to the local police department and turned them in. "It's admirable that they did that," a police officer tells USA Today. "Sometimes folks just aren't going to do that."

"We feel bad for the parents but at the same time we're thankful that they did the right thing," says the co-owner of Tech Boyz, who estimates the store lost some $3,000 worth of laptops, cell phones, and the like. The boys told police they succumbed to peer pressure; they'll be handled in juvenile court, notes USA Today. Another 17-year-old has been charged in the burglary, and two others are being sought.
